Man Breaks Into Home Of Off-Duty Cop: Police

The officer was home at the time and was able to quickly restrain the 25-year-old man, police say.

SELDEN, NY – A 25-year-old man was arrested after he broke into the home of an off-duty Nassau County Police Department officer in Selden Monday afternoon, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, Franklin Almonte entered the Catherine Drive home of off-duty officer Mark Kellerman through a kitchen window at about 1:20 p.m.

Almonte fled when Kellerman identified himself as a police officer, but Almonte was quickly stopped and restrained by the officer, who called 911, police said. Sixth Precinct Patrol officers responded and arrested Almonte.

Kellerman, 45, has been with the NCPD for more than 15 years.

Almonte, of Selden, was charged with second degree criminal trespass and fourth degree criminal mischief. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
