Man Seriously Hurt When Vehicle Strikes Overpass, Flips Over, Then Catches Fire In Holtsville: Police
Emergency responders were able to get the man out of the vehicle while battling flames, Suffolk police say.
RONKONKOMA, NY — A 19-year-old man was seriously hurt when his Jeep struck another SUV and flipped over, then caught fire in Holstville late last night, Suffolk police said.
A 19-year-old man was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Nicholls Road, when the vehicle side-swiped a 2019 Toyota Highlander, then struck the Division Street overpass, overturned, and caught fire, at around 11:20 p.m., according to police.
Officers from Suffolk's Highway Patrol, Canine Section, and 6th Precinct got the man out of the vehicle while battling the flames, and they were extinguished by firefighters from the Holstville Fire Department, police said.

The 19-year-old, who is from Patchogue, was taken by Holtsville Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, while the driver of the Toyota, a 52-year-old from Stony Brook, was not hurt, according to police.
Both vehicles were impounded, police said.
