Nokomis Elementary Students Raise $1K From Bracelet Sales For Animal Rescue
Sachem Central School District students used sales from bracelets they made to raise funds for Last Chance Animal Rescue.

SACHEM, NY — Last Chance Animal Rescue, a nonprofit that places pets in foster homes, received $1,056 from the students of Nokomis Elementary School last week. The 50 children from Theresa Belluci, Robyn Greico and Jen De Carlo's third and fourth grade classes started raising funds for the donation in May via a service learning project that included a bracelet sale and creating adoption ads that were posted on the charity’s social media pages to draw attention to the animals in need.
“By working on this special project, it was our hope that our students developed a better sense of what animal rescue is," said De Carlo. "Our students are such compassionate individuals who did a fantastic job with their adoption ads for their assigned dogs! We are so proud of everyone involved for raising more money than we ever dreamed possible!”
Jenny Adams, a volunteer at Last Chance Animal Rescue, said the organization was grateful to the Nokomis community for helping the nonprofit's mission to save the lives of animals.
