The event was organized because officials say incidents of dating violence and abuse are on the rise, it’s imperative that teens, adults, and their families are well-equipped to recognize the signs early and act quickly.

Key topics to be covered include:
  • Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships: Participants will learn to tell the difference between healthy, respectful relationships, and those that are toxic or harmful. Topics will include signs of emotional, physical, and verbal abuse.
  • Support Services Available: Long Island Against Domestic Violence offers numerous resources and programs to assist individuals in abusive situations, providing counseling, shelter, and legal assistance. Additionally, the Suffolk police provide immediate help and advice for those who may be in danger or need further guidance.
  • Talking to Your Teen About Unhealthy Relationships: Parents, adults, and guardians will receive tips on how to approach difficult conversations with their teens. This includes fostering an open, non-judgmental dialogue, recognizing warning signs, and encouraging their teens to reach out for help when necessary.
