Sachem School District Officials Avoid 70 Layoffs After Union Concessions: Report
They face a $3.7 Million gap that would need to be closed by using reserve funds or piercing the tax cap, News 12 reported.

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — Cuts to around 70 positions — resulting in layoffs — are off the agenda in the Sachem School District, News 12 reported.
District officials were able to avoid the proposal due to concessions made by unions, according to the outlet.
The district still faces a $3.7 million budget gap, despite fully funded state aid, and the school board will likely fill the deficit by spending a portion of $60 million in reserve funds, or by piercing the tax cap, which would result in $230 extra per year in taxes for the average homeowner, the outlet reported.
