The arduous selection process for selecting an All-State musician includes teacher recommendations, audition scores at the NYSMMA solo evaluation festival during the prior spring and exemplary participation in other performing organizations. Approximately 7,000 students audition for the eight All-State performing groups and just under 900 are selected to participate annually.
