School In Sachem ID'd For Potential Closure: District
The district faces a challenging budget season, and the closure was discussed as an option, though no decision has been made.

HOLBROOK, NY — The Sachem School District has notified the state of the possibility of the closing of Merrimac Elementary School in Holbrook, Superintendent Patricia Trombetta said this week.
The school has been named as a potential building for closure, but no decision has been finalized, and as per state education department law, the district has only notified the state, according to Trombetta.
The action is required to take place by Saturday, she said.

In a statement, noted that the district "is facing a challenging budget season and is working to identify ways in which to close the financial deficit it is experiencing."
"In order to address this deficit, the district is reviewing several options, which may include the closure of a building," she said. "As the district continues to develop our budget, please know all decisions will be made with careful consideration and in the best interest of all our students."
