RONKONKOMA, NY — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.
This submission comes from Benny Calderone who nominated his son, Benito, a St. Anthony's High School student who runs track and plays soccer while maintaining a 98.5 percent average. Benito has also been recognized by his school as a high scholar and has received the Saint Bonaventure Award.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
Benito is a scholar athlete currently with a greater than 98.5 percent average he has been recognized by his school as a high scholar and has received the Saint Bonaventure Award.
He is an active participant in his school soccer team, Winter Track Team, Spring Track Team, and plays soccer at a high competitive level for a local Academy team, SUSA.
Benito can often be found practicing and working on his athletics or studying sometimes into the late hours of the evening but he is always determined to meet the needs of his team, teammates, teachers, and school. He is also a volunteer at the school as part of the leadership team and participates in Open House and mentoring events for new and incoming students.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
Benito is the definition of hard work and determination.
