Union Avenue School Still Not Sold After 3 Years
The school district says it anticipated it would take time to sell.

In 2015, the Sachem Central School District closed the Union Avenue School and listed the site on the real estate market. But three years later, the school has still not sold.
The school, which was built in 1925 and opened a year later, is listed for an undisclosed price. The district would not disclose the price and attempts to reach the listing agent were unavailing.
District officials, however, are not surprised by how long it has taken to sell the property, which is located at 245 Union Avenue in Holbrook.

"The district did anticipate that it would take some time to sell the property as any approval must go through the proper local channels and procedures," officials said.
The entire site for sale features a 14,224-square-foot single-story building with a parking lot, open field and baseball diamond.

The school is split zoned for residence and business.

"There are a number of monuments on the property of the Union Avenue School, which has served as an elementary school, district office and home of the Sachem Central Teachers Association over the years," a blog post on the district's website said. "All of the signs and monuments will be moved to retain their significance in the community."
