Wenonah Elementary Welcomes New Principal
Thomas Desmond most recently served as an assistant principal at Samoset Middle.

The Sachem Central School District has announced the appointment of Thomas Desmond as the new principal of Wenonah Elementary School, filling the vacancy left by Christine DiPaola following her retirement.
After a thorough screening process, Desmond joins Wenonah Elementary, bringing a wealth of administrative experience. He most recently served as an assistant principal at Samoset Middle School for six years and previously as an assistant principal at Sachem High School East for one year. During his time at Samoset Middle School, Desmond’s leadership was instrumental as the liaison for the Samoset Building Leadership Team and also in the development and institution of a proactive positive behavioral reinforcement program.
Desmond holds a bachelor of science degree in biology, a master of science degree in secondary education and an advanced graduate degree in school building and district leadership, all from Stony Brook University. In addition, Desmond is pursuing his doctoral degree in administration and supervision from St. John’s University.

It will be equally important for me to maintain many of the traditions which have contributed to Wenonah’s reputation of excellence.”
