James Young Students Learn About Diabetes

Middle schoolers team up with charity for awareness program and to raise money for research.

In recognition of American Diabetes Month, the James Wilson Young Middle School National Junior Honor Society teamed up with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to sponsor an awareness program and weeklong fundraiser at the school.

The students learned about type 1 and type 2 diabetes through the program, as well as the importance of a healthy diet and exercise from a JDRF representative.

The honor society helped to raise more than $5,400 for the cause. The program culminated with a schoolwide awareness walk on Nov. 20.
