Man Hit And Killed By Car On Long Island: Police

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a man driving a BMW on Long Island on Friday night, Suffolk County police say.

OAKDALE, NY — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Oakdale on Friday night, according to Suffolk County police.

Wayne Griffith, 60, of Medford, was driving a 2011 BMW 550 when he struck a male pedestrian who was in the roadway of eastbound Sunrise Highway between Exit 48 and Exit 49 around 9:30 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been established by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Police said Griffith was not injured and the BMW was impounded for a safety check.
