Man Killed After Car Crosses Lanes, Strikes Tree On Montauk Hwy: Cops

The incident occurred Monday morning, police say.

SAYVILLE, NY — A man is dead after his vehicle crossed lanes and struck a tree on Montauk Highway on Monday, Suffolk County Police said.

Ike Nelson, 34, of Oakdale, was driving a 2011 Honda CRV eastbound on Montauk Highway, just east of Broadway near Sayville, about 10:20 a.m. when his vehicle crossed the westbound lane and struck a tree on the north side of the roadway.

Community Ambulance immediately responded and found Nelson heavily entangled inside a vehicle with traumatic injuries, said Jamie Atkinson, its company director

"Our EMT’s and Paramedics worked quickly and tirelessly to manage his serious injuries, providing necessary advanced life support medications and other treatments to stabilize him," Atkinson told Patch in an email.

Nelson was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University
Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

"The Sayville Fire Department, Community Ambulance and Suffolk Police worked seamlessly together as at team with one goal and that was save someone from our communities' life," said Atkinson. "Our hearts and condolences go out to the patients family, friends and our community as a whole, anytime someone tragically passes away."
