“As Poor Making Many Rich”

"Hub Of Help" Press Release

The Christian tradition is replete with examples of folks using the little that they have, sometimes the bare minimum, to serve those around them. It was said of 1st disciples of Jesus Christ, who are referred to as “the Apostles”, that they were “as poor, making many rich” (see, 2 Corinthians 6:10). The Biblical writing, Acts Of The Apostles, details how the 1st century Christians would hold all that they had in common to ensure no needy person was found among them.

The Blue Point Bible Church (www.bluepointbiblechurch.org) has continued for more than a century now to manifest the aforementioned Christian tradition. In 1865 a group of women, who would eventually become the Women’s Union of Blue Point, began feeding the Union soldiers coming home from the war. Those women eventually invited a preacher and so began what would become the Blue Point Baptist Church. In the 1990’s, as the church moved toward a non-denominational perspective, becoming known as The Blue Point Bible Church, the then serving pastor and his wife started a fair-priced, faith-based, preschool for the families in the community. Now, in 2025, the church is using their space and time to launch what they are calling a “Hub of Help”. The idea of a “Hub of Help” is to be exactly that, a hub, a place where help can be found. Starting with a free thrift ministry (“The Attic Free Thrift”), a food pantry and a plate of food (“The Kitchen Table Food Ministry”), and allowing for the building to be used as a ‘community resource center’ on Thursdays, there is no limit to the help that can be and will be offered. Resources (including but not limited to, showers, barbers, and hygiene bags), informative lectures, classes, courses, organization meetings, on-site social workers, and more are planned for the future.

On Sunday, May 24th, 2025, The Blue Point Bible Church hosted a Rummage Sale, Free Stuff, & BBQ event. Not only did successful rummaging take place (folks brought old stuff to receive tickets for new stuff), bags of non-perishable groceries were given out to families upon request, some prepared barbecued foods (hot dogs, burgers, chicken, and pork) were enjoyed, and many servant-hearted volunteers showed up to make the day happen! See attached pictures from the event.

It has always been the due diligence of the leadership & membership of The Blue Point Bible Church, as well as the desire to serve among the membership and those in the wider community who gather around the mission to “Keep This Church Going”, that has made our ability to do these things possible. Due to the reality that we are called to be “set apart”, namely by our doctrines and practices to which we have adhered to, our best effort of being “in the world but not of the world”, holding to ideas of Sovereign grace, Fulfilled Bible Prophecy, and a Baptistic style of worship and church activity, our membership has always remained rather small. We have accomplished mighty things, as we have often said, ‘A Small Church With A Big Task’.

We truly are ‘poor yet making many rich’ and continually find ourselves in a place of fundraising. We have building maintenance needs, outrageous insurance costs, and ministry to maintain. Would you be willing to donate today and do your part to “Keep This Church Going”? We can accept monetary donations online or by check (or bring your cash offering to the church building).
Donate online through our website - www.bluepointbiblechurch.org

Of course, we also accept donations of new/used clothing (any condition), household items, kids items and toys, as well as non-perishable foods. Donations can be dropped off in or by our ‘donation bin’ in our parking lot (on the corner of Blue Point Ave. & Maple St., Blue Point).
We are ever grateful for the organizations that have and that will continue to gather around, partner with, and promote our efforts. To name a few, His Coalition For The Homeless, Great South Bay Coalition, Hands Across Long Island, & Harmony Cafe.

The “Hub of Help” officially opens its doors at The Blue Point Bible Church on Thursday, May 29th from 10:30am - 7:30pm. After 7:30pm there is an anonymous meeting, open to the public, that gathers in the basement, as well.

Stop in this Thursday, or any Thursday following, and find yourself being a blessing all the while being blessed. Everyone could use some help, whether it’s someone to talk to, a hot cup of coffee, a plate of food, resources, or free thrift.
