Sayville Boys Golf Team Wins Suffolk County Championship

Golden Flashes claim Section XI title, advance to Long Island championship this spring.

SAYVILLE, NY — The Sayville High School boys varsity golf team has captured the Section XI Boys Golf Team Championship, defeating Sachem in the county finals on Nov. 3 at Pine Hills Golf and Country Club in Manorville.

The victory marks the Golden Flashes’ first Suffolk County team championship in seven years and propels them to the Long Island championship in the spring, where they’ll face off against the Nassau County champion on the famed Black Course at Bethpage State Park.

“We are all so incredibly proud of these remarkable student-athletes for the skill, talent, and determination they displayed,” said Superintendent Dr. Marc Ferris. “We congratulate the boys golf team on its outstanding success and will continue to cheer on our Golden Flashes as they compete for the Long Island championship.”

Sayville dominated the tournament, winning both the semifinals and finals on the same day. The top-seeded Golden Flashes opened with a 7.5–1.5 win over Riverhead High School, edging them by a total-stroke margin of 204–213. They went on to clinch the title with an 8–1 victory over Sachem, finishing with a 197–203 stroke margin.

The Golden Flashes now look ahead to spring competition, where they’ll represent Suffolk County in the Long Island title match.
