SAYVILLE-BAYPORT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Caroline Tinaz who nominated her daughter, Yasmin of Sayville-Bayport.

Tinaz wrote that despite a very personal death in their family, Yasmin continues to be the best student she can be.

How do you know the star local student?

I’m her mother.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Due to sad circumstances with the loss of her father unexpectedly in 2018 and the loss of a business I ran after the loss of my husband due to COVID-19, she continued to thrive and work hard in school taking only the most difficult challenging AP classes and her GPA is 4.06. She was accepted into Boston University.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

She studied and thrived under the most difficult times in her life, and I am so proud of her as a mom.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Yasmin!
