LONG ISLAND, NY — Incumbent Republican Andrew Garbarino appeared to have won the race for the 2nd Congressional District with 56.26% of the vote to his Democratic challenger, Rob Lubin's 37.22%, according to unofficial results from the state Board of Elections.

In a Facebook post, Garbarino thanked his constituents "for once again voting" to send him to Congress "to fight for Long Island values."

"The voters have spoken and their message is clear — Americans are sick of living through crisis after crisis brought on by failed policies," he said. "We have accomplished so much together over these last four years, but there is so much more work to do."

In his statement conceding the race, Lubin said: "I want to thank Congressman Garbarino for running a good race, and I congratulate him on his win. Since Day One, my campaign has been about fighting for the hardworking people of Long Island’s South Shore and advocating affordable housing, healthcare, and public safety. While tonight’s result wasn’t what I hoped for, I am very proud of the campaign we ran."

“I am immensely grateful to everyone who supported me, including campaign volunteers, supporters, labor unions, and, most importantly, my family,” Lubin added. “Though the campaign is over, I will continue to work tirelessly for the people of New York’s Second Congressional District and tirelessly advocate for the issues that matter most to them."
