NEW YORK — Public school teachers in New York can make vastly different salaries, depending on the school district in which they work.
School districts in New York pay their teachers a average salary of $79,637, making the state one of the best in the nation for teacher salaries, according to Niche.
Of the top 30 best school districts in the state, ranked by Niche, only three districts were not in the downstate area: Brighton Central School District in Rochester, Pittsford Central School District and Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District in Syracuse. The rest were either on Long Island or in the Hudson Valley.

Scarsdale's school district came out on top with the highest average salary of $156,140. It was followed closely by Jericho UFSD with an average salary of $155,481.
