This six-session course focuses on the art of brush movement and the meditative rhythm within Chinese calligraphy. Through guided exercises on lines, pressure, and movement, students will learn to connect mind, breath, and brush—discovering a state of flow through ink. Participants will explore abstract concepts such as wind, stillness, flow, and form vs. formlessness as the basis for personal creative expression.

The class bridges traditional brushwork with contemporary sensibility, encouraging each student to create an individual piece that reflects their inner rhythm.

All levels are welcome. Materials are included, and each student will receive a brush to keep and take home after the class.

About the Instructor

Sinrong Chen is an artist whose practice bridges the traditions of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting with a contemporary sensibility. She has developed a style that emphasizes the fluidity of brushwork and the meditative rhythm of ink on paper. Her paintings often draw inspiration from nature—birds, flowers, and flowing forms—expressed through bold brushstrokes that celebrate both discipline and spontaneity. She sees the act of painting as a dialogue between control and chance, where each stroke captures a fleeting moment of flow.
