Key Foods market to replace Rite Aid on East Hartsdale Ave--great news for our community!

Residents have asked for a supermarket for many years. Residents will be thrilled!

Some fantastic news. A new Key Food Coop supermarket will replace the former Rite Aid on E Hartsdale Ave. After Rite Aid closed many residents had contacted town officials expressing the desire that a quality food market be encouraged to take over the space.

I spoke with the landlord, Louis Weisman on Friday who gave me the great news- that the lease was signed! I am very grateful to the landlord for his responsiveness to the community. Mr. Weisman rejected other potential tenants because he wanted to make sure that the Avenue would get the highest quality tenant who will serve our community for many years to come. He recognized the importance of having a market on the Avenue.

Many older residents live in the apartments on E Hartsdale Ave, and their quality of life will improve. They will be able to walk to a food market! Also- a big thank you to Marty Deitch, senior Vice President of Aries Deitch and Endelson, Inc, a commercial realtor, for his hard work. Steve Goldberg, a resident of E Hartsdale Ave has been working hard for many months providing valuable advice – helping to come up with plans to revitalize E Hartsdale Ave. Our Greenburgh Chamber of Commerce is also working hard to help existing businesses and new businesses succeed.

East Hartsdale Ave is coming back. Earlier this summer we repaved the business district. And recently a new farmers market opened on Saturday mornings. Some new businesses are planning to open in the Ave soon.

I believe that the new supermarket, which we hope will open this winter, will help attract more pedestrian traffic and help existing businesses succeed. And, when there are vacancies high quality tenants will be more likely to want to open their businesses on the Avenue.

The market does not need Zoning or Planning Board approvalβ€”only building permits. More information about the market will be shared with the community soon. It's our hope that the market will be able to open this winter.

Let’s work hard to help make this new supermarket a big success.
