Pub Patrons Helping Sandy Victims

The U-Haul truck behind Emma's Ale House in White Plains is filled with everything from water bottles, canned foods and cleaning supplies to bathing suits and scooters.

All of it will soon go to the Salvation Army where it will be transported to people who have lost so much over the last two weeks because of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

"We'll take it all," said Casey Egan, owner of Emma's Ale House on Gedney Way in White Plains. "Everything can be used."

Egan contacted the Salvation Army last week and was told that dropping off whatever donations he can round up would be the best way to help. He rented the truck later that week and has been accepting donations since.

Bar patrons, friends and residents have spread the word and piled donations inside the truck over the weekend. People donated in a variety of ways. Many brought supplies and had dinner at Emma's, others dropped off boxes throughout the day after hearing about the idea from a friend.

Egan said he will drop off the items today and fill up the truck again this week before making a final donation early next week.

"All of that stuff is so valuable to these people I guess now," Egan said. "The devastation was so tremendous."

Anyone is still welcome to donate this week during regular hours. Emma's is located at 68 Gedney Way, White Plains.
