This is the final week of classes at Scarsdale's Our Lady of Fatima Catholic school. The Scarsdale school is among seven others that the Archdiocese of New York is shutting down in our area. The list includes: St. Theresa's in Briarcliff Manor, Our Lady of Assumption in Peekskill, Holy Name of Jesus in Valhalla, Blessed Sacrament-St. Gabriel High School in New Rochelle, St. Augustine in New City and St. Peter's in Haverstraw.
Last fall, a reconfiguration committees started evaluating and analyzing the schools. The Archdiocese then met with pastors and principals of the at-risk schools and made the final decision in January. Many students will be transferring to other Catholic schools, such as Annunciation School in Crestwood, Sacred Heart in Yonkers and other area schools.
The closures are a part of the strategic "Pathways to Excellence" plan for the Catholic schools, which will regionalize many of the Catholic schools in New York.
