Scarsdale Public Schools Considering $154,300,765 Budget

The budget would aim to include a physical education teacher, another nurse and a possible Mandarin language teacher.

SCARSDALE, NY—Scarsdale Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas Hagerman has proposed a 2017-18 Scarsdale school budget of $154,399, 745, which is a 2.5 percent increase from the 2016-17 budget. The proposed budget would see a projected increase in tax levy of 1.40 percent. The projected tax levy limit for this year is 1.55 percent, so the increase would fall below the tax cap.

Among the proposed budgetary expenses for next year will be early reading teachers at the elementary school, a Mandarin teacher for a new elementary school program, a full-time STEAM coordinator, a second school nurse at the high school, two more cleaning people to handle the expanded facilities and some promotions, that will require a salary raise.

The total additional cost of the staffing increases will be $1,051,000.
