Pleasantville Music Theater (PMT), a Westchester-based non-profit community theatre organization, has announced 2012 auditions for its popular Westchester Teen Idol competition. Teen vocalists (between ages 13-19) are invited to join one of the county’s most exciting competitions of the last ten years.

Auditions are slated for September 29 and October 6 at Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce Street in Yorktown Heights.

All teens in the tri-state region are invited to participate; however, those wishing to compete are required to R.S.V.P for an audition appointment by calling (914) 923-3390. As audition space is limited, those interested are encouraged to call and reserve an audition space as soon as possible.

Each participant will also be required to pay a $40 audition fee, and be available to perform for the 2012 competition finale concert, which will take place at the Irvington Town Hall Theatre on the evening of Saturday, November 24, 2012.

The first prize winner receives a cash prize and sponsored gifts. Special prizes are awarded to the top five finalists and all finalists receive a prize bag.

The singing competition concept has taken America by storm, with a plethora of new singing shows coming out on television each year. Β While the competition is a fundraiser for PMT Productions, a non-profit organization, it is also designed to showcase young talent, and acquaint young performers with skills they will need (auditioning before various judges, performing before a live audience, practicing their vocal pieces, and graciously competing with their peers) as they embark on their careers.

The finale concert will be judged by a panel of three celebrity judges, who have experience in the entertainment industry. As part of the evening’s program, these industry insiders share their experiences with the young people and offer advice. Past judges for the Westchester Teen Idol have included pop star Jesse McCartney, Carol Demas (The Magic Garden, original Sandy in β€œGrease”), Jimmy Tate (Jelly’s Last Jam), Craig Schulman (Les Miserables) and many others.

Whether or not they ultimately win the competition, all entrants will experience a unique event they can include on their resumes and a comment sheet from the professional judges.
