Here are the top three stories in Shirley-Mastic today:

1. A bald eagle that flew into the side of a truck on Sunrise Highway had to be euthanized due to its severe injuries. The tragedy happened on Thursday on exit 58 in Shirley. A passing motorist called 911. The federally protected species was transported to Animals in Need of Rescue, but the wildlife rehabilitation group said the bird was too far gone to save.(Patch)

3. The next LEGO Builders program is set for Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Mastic Recreation Center. Kiddos in grades K-7 will build, explore and let their imagination run while they develop motor and math skills. (MMSCL)

• MMS Community will host the "On the Road: Stroller Club" at Southaven Park on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10:30. The group is asked to meet at Southaven County Park, at Victory Avenue in Shirley. Kids attending the program will be gifted with a book to take home." (MMSCL)
