Driver Fleeing Shooter Struck Pedestrian On Long Island Roadway: Police

The person was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, Suffolk police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — Suffolk police said that following a shooting in Shirley on Friday night, a driver trying to get away from the person with a gun struck a pedestrian on William Floyd Parkway, Suffolk police said.

An unknown shooter fired a gun at another person inside the parking lot of the strip mall, which contains a Pizza Hut, convenience store, a bar, and other businesses, and then bolted in a vehicle at around 10 p.m., according to police.

No one was injured in the shooting.

It is not clear if the person who was shot at was in a vehicle or on foot.

A second person, a driver, told officers that they were being chased by an unknown person with a gun and "raced out" of the parking lot of a strip mall, just north of the railroad tracks, and struck the person on the southbound side of the parkway, according to police.

The pedestrian, who was struck, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of leg pain, police said.

The shooter remains at large, according to police.

No further details were available.

Residents reported heavy police activity around the parkway on Friday night.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
