NORTH PATCHOGUE, NY — The New York region was hit by the first big storm of the year this Friday.

Shirley saw about 7 inches of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service. The most snow in Suffolk County accumulated in Setauket-East Setauket, where there was 8.7 inches.
