  1. A teenage girl was riding a bike on Flintlock Drive in Shirley when she was hit by a car whose driver ran away. The hit-and-run happened at the intersection of Maple Lane on Sunday, around 7:45 p.m. The teen was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police are asking for the public's help identifying the driver responsible for the incident. (Patch)
  2. Looking for an outing this weekend? The town of Brookhaven features the "Sculpture on the Trail," an Art and Nature Exhibition only 5 miles away from Shirley! Seventy artists will display their work in the woods of Washington Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. (Patch Events)
  3. Police found a man under the influence of drugs passed out inside his car with his infant son screaming in the backseat. Harry Penny from Mastic was charged under Leandra’s Law. The incident happened in Bellport on Wednesday night. The child was given to a family member. (Patch)
  4. The trailer of the Gabby Petito Lifetime Movie has been released. Actress Skylar Samuels and actor Evan Hall play the characters of Gabby Petito and Bryan Laundrie. According to The Sun, Petito's family disapproved of the movie. (Patchogue Patch)
