  1. A "zombie house" was demolished in Mastic Beach on Monday. The house was located at 11 Maywood Drive. Councilman Dan Panico said the vacant space will be preserved. (Patch)
  2. No registration is required to participate in the Morning Nature Walks at Wertheim Wildlife Refuge hosted by the MMS Community Library. Attendees are asked to meet at the visitor center located on Smith Road in Shirley at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 19. (MMSCL)
  3. William Floyd chemistry teacher Dr. Martin Palermo received the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Program Award. The achievement is due to Palermo's skills in keeping students engaged. (Patch)
