Here are the top four stories today in Shirley-Mastic:
- The Shirley Paving Project is completed according to a press release by Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendents. The project covered thirteen roadways south of the LIE and east of William Floyd Parkway. Visit here to see the list of the resurfaced roads. (Patch)
- Hooray to William Floyd High School student Zariel Macchia for winning the Smith Point 5K Run for Literacy 2022. She had an incredible winning time of 17:08. The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library hosted the event. (Patch)
- Drop in at the Sunday Fun Days at the MMSC Library between 1 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. The fun will be held in the Small Room of the Mastic Recreation Center. No registration is required. (MMSCL)
- A shooting on Tyler Avenue ended with a stray bullet hitting a house in Bellport. Police reported the incident on Monday at 9:40 p.m. No arrests were made. Police continue to investigate the case. (Patchogue Patch)

- Are you a fan of the 2004 movie "Napoleon Dynamite?" If so, the stars of the 20-year-old movie that took place in a small town in Idaho will be at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts in April for a discussion about the movie. Ticket prices will run from $59 to $79. (Patchogue Patch)
- The 4th “Full Moon Halloween Dance” kicks off on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. The party will be held at the VFW at 437 Main St. in Center Moriches. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, dessert and drinks. DJ Stingray Entertainment will play the music. (Mastic CofC)
