Here are the top four stories today in Shirley-Mastic:
- Smith Point County Park in Shirley will remain open for the season due to campers' complaints. Suffolk County initially decided to shut the sites on October 24 but plans changed after campers complained to the town that they wanted to keep their Halloween tradition of giving out candy to families in the campground. The sites will be open until Nov. 1. (News 12 Bronx)
- The William Floyd School District received a significant donation of school supplies from the Forum of Indian Women on Long Island. The materials will be distributed among students struggling with homelessness or displaced situations. (William Floyd School District)
- The MMS Community Library will welcome little dancers of the community at the "Toddlers Tango" class. Bring the little ones to dance it out with Ms. Nicole Friday, Sept. 23, from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Mastic Recreation Center. (MMSC Library)
- The spooky season is approaching, and the Gateway Playhouse is hosting a scary hunted house farmstead style from Sept. 30 through Oct. 31. Director Michael Baker described this year's theme as "a once-flourishing farm, producing some of New York’s best produce." (Patchogue Patch)
