SMITHTOWN, NY β€” Caesar and Tuna are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.

Caesar is a 7-month-old domestic short hair boy, while Tuna is a 1-year-old brown FIV+ female tabby.

"These two magnificent babies had a rough start in life… abandoned and left for dead at a parking lot, inside a closed box in the sweltering summer heat," the shelter wrote in an email. "Thankfully these adorable kitties were found and brought to the shelter. Despite all they have been through, Caesar and Tuna love people and would make incredible additions to a lucky family’s heart and home."

Caesar has a brown tabby coat "clearly made for a king," according to the shelter.

"He brings joy to all who make his acquaintance," the shelter stated. "This adorable little fella is all personality! His warm and loving nature will win anyone over instantly. Caesar would love to be adopted together with his friend, Tuna, but can be adopted to the right home alone. This healthy young boy would do well in a home with kids, other cats and likely dogs."

Tuna is FIV-positive and has shown "incredible resilience and love" despite her challenging past, according to the shelter.

"This playful and outgoing young mom was abandoned with her baby and housemate while she was pregnant!" the shelter wrote. "Tuna deserves a forever home where she will be adored and pampered for life. Her affectionate nature makes her the perfect companion, ready to share her love and playful energy with kids, other cats and likely dogs. While she would love to be adopted with her housemate, Caesar, Tuna is also open to finding the right home without her friend."

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
