Man Hit Police Car With Child In Car In Smithtown While Intoxicated: PD
The man's girlfriend's 11-year-old son was in the car when he blew a red light and hit the cop car, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY β A man was charged with DWI under Leandra's Law after he drove while drunk with an 11-year-old child in the car on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.
Terrance Brown, 45, of Jamaica, NY, was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway with his girlfriend and her 11-year-old son in the vehicle when he went through a red light at the intersection of Old Willets Path and nearly crashed into a marked Suffolk County Police Third Precinct Patrol vehicle traveling southbound around 9:15 p.m., police said.
The officers in the police vehicle pulled the Nissan over and determined Brown was intoxicated, police said. The license plates on the Nissan had previously been reported stolen, police said.

Brown was charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra's Law), endangering the welfare of a child, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
His arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on had been scheduled for Monday.
