Meet the Library Trustee Candidates at the Nesconset Library

The Smithtown Special Library District is looking to fill two seats on the board of trustees with three candidates seeking election.

Three candidates are running for two seats on the board of trustees for the Smithtown Special Library District, and you can meet all three of them Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Nesconset branch of the district. Β 

Running for re-election is Anthony Monteleone, the current Vice President of the board, member of the board’s personnel committee, and member of the Friends of the Library. Monteleone is a Nesconset resident who is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, St. Patrick's Outreach Program, and volunteer with the Long Island State Veterans Home. Β 

Commack resident and President of the Friends of the Library, Otis Thornhill is another candidate looking to fill one of the two open seats. In addition to his role with the Friends of the Library, he is a mentor at the Long Island Mentoring ProjectΒ and member of the Rotary Club of Smithtown Sunrise. Β

Former library trustee Rosalind Palazzolo is looking to get back on the board after losing in the 2010 election. The St. James resident and former Town of Smithtown typist is also a member of the Fairfield Civic Association, President of the Board of Managers for the Fairfield Condos, and Secretary for the Mills Pond Club. Β

The vote on the candidates, as well as the proposed $12,649,720 budget, is set for Oct. 11. The proposed budget is at a 1.2 percent increase from the adopted $ 12,500,112 from 2011. Β 

The Nesconset and Commack branches are the only two locations open to vote due to construction at the other buildings. Smithtown branch voters can vote in the Nesconset location, and Kings park voters can vote at the Kings Park firehouse. Voting is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Β  Β  Β Β
