Photo of the Day: Workers Prep Responders Memorial for Unveiling

A ceremony for the 9/11 Responders Remembered memorial in Nesconset is set to take place Saturday morning.

Although work on the 9/11 Responders Remembered memorial in Nesconset has seen numerous delays, from an to and recent heavy rain, workers started early Friday morning with no scheduled time to stop to prepare for its Saturday morning unveiling.

A ceremony to introduce the memorial to the community will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Attendees include Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, Nesconset resident and founder of the FealGood Foundation John Feal, members of the 9/11 Responders Remembered Parks Committee, and more.

In addition to the public display of the memorial, a portion of the Gibbs Pond Road and Smithtown Boulevard intersection will be renamed "Robert Helmke Way," in honor of Greta Helmke's late husband who died in July 2007 from illnesses related to working at Ground Zero.
