Smithtown Notebook: Festivals and Parades, Compressed Natural Gas Bus Purchases and More

Here's a rundown of what took place at town hall this week in the Town of Smithtown.

Festivals, Carnivals, Walks and More

The town board read correspondences for nine festivals, carnivals, walks and parades at the Tuesday, March 8 board meeting at Town Hall. The Smithtown Festival Day, Neph Cure Foundation Annual Carnival, 911 Responders Remembered Park Inc. 5K Walk and the Saint James Day Festival all had second readings Tuesday.

Permits were approved for the Saint James Chamber of Commerce for the Sunday, June 5 and Sunday, October 2 Saint James Day Festivals, as well as for the Thursday, May 19 Neph Cure Foundation for its annual carnival held at the Smith Haven Mall and the 911 Responders Remembered for the walk/run on Sunday, April 3.

The Kings Park Youth Organization Opening Day Parade, American Legion Donald C. Munro Post 944 Memorial Day Parade, Knights of Columbus Memorial Day Parade, Smiles & Strides for Stefani 5K Walk/Run and 1K Fun Run and the Saint James Chamber of Commerce Halloween Costume Parade all had first readings Tuesday.

Compressed Natural Gas Powered Busses, More Purchased by Town

The purchases of compressed natural gas powered busses were one of five goods and services approved by the town board at the Tuesday, March 8 board meeting. Other goods and services approved by the town board Tuesday were electrical maintenance, bailing wire to accent wire, printed shirts and to replace floating docks at the Old Dock Boat Ramp by Chesterfield Associates, a marine contractor based out of Westhampton Beach.

Town Meetings for This Week

The Town of Smithtown’s lone meeting for this week is the Planning Board Meeting, which will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Smithtown Senior Center.
