Monday Begins Same-Sex Marriage Application Acceptance


The town clerks office will begin accepting applications for same-sex marriage certificates Monday.

To handle what Town Clerk Vincent Puleo expects to be a rush of applicants, he has asked his staff to not take vacation during the first week applications can be accepted.

Puleo said the office is using new forms that offer the options of β€œBride/Groom/Spouse,” which previously featured the options β€œBride” or β€œGroom."

β€œWhat my staff is ready to do is let the couples dictate to us who will be the bride, groom or spouse.Β  It’s all up to the couple sitting in front of the person filling in the application,” the town clerk said.

In order to obtain a marriage license, couples must bring proof of age, such as a birth certificate or naturalization record, and provide photo identification. Valid photo identification includes a driver’s license/non-driver’s ID,Β a passport, employment photo identification, immigration record or military identification. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days.

More Than $1,050 Raised at Nesconset Summer Concert Series to Benefit Long Island Veterans


Donations accepted at the , sponsored by Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, as well as the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce, has topped $1,050 to benefit Long Island veterans, as of the July 19 show.

Kennedy and his aides pass coffee cans during the shows through the audience to raise donations for 9-1-1 Veterans, a Lindenhurst-based nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance to active duty or honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and dependents in paying basic living expenses such as mortgages, rent, utilities, medical bills and food.Β 

Upcoming Town Meetings

The town will hold just one meeting this coming week – the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on June 26 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Eugene A. Cannataro Smithtown Senior Citizen Center.
