This Day in History: McGrath Selected to Compete in First Women's International Boxing Tournament

Jamie McGrath in 1999 was named to the US team to fight in the first women's international boxing tournament in Finland.

On this day in 1999, USAToday.com reported that Smithtown native Jamie McGrath was selected to compete in Feenix Box Cup at Turku, Finland, the first women's international boxing tournament.

According to the report, McGrath, a flyweight, was one of eight women selected to the team. More than 13 countries participated in the tournament, including Canada, Finland, Sweden, Greece and Russia.
