On this day in 1969, William Goette of Smithtown was victim of a robbery while working at a Pan American World Airways cargo building at Kennedy Airport, a robbery that resulted in $600,000 in stolen cash and jewelry, according to an archived Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.

According to the report, Goette was handcuffed as three men stole cash and jewelry from a shipping bag and left the scene in a vehicle.
