Tree Trimmer Killed in Nissequogue

Thursday's death was the second tree-trimming accident in the past two weeks in Smithtown.

A South Carolina tree trimmer was killed on Thursday, according to Suffolk County Police, after a broken limb struck him in the head in Nissequogue.

Police said the man – 36-year-old David Freberg, of York, S.C. – was attempting to trim a fallen tree in the woods around 12:15 p.m. behind 42 James Neck Rd. Freberg was employed by Patriot Tree Service.

Thursday's accident was the second in the area in the past two weeks; last Tuesday, a Centereach man was killed when he was struck in the headΒ while trimming trees behind theΒ Hauppauge Palace DinerΒ on Route 347 in Hauppauge.

The tree had fallen during last week's storm, according to police.

Freberg was transported to Stony Brook Hospital by Saint James Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
