BREAKING: Two Young Girls Hit by Car on Main Street
One girl was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
UPDATE (7:45 p.m.): Police confirmed that the two girls struck were sisters, condition of the sisters is still unknown. Smithtown Fire Department confirmed Main Street is closed while police investigate.
Two young girls were hit by a car on Main Street Thursday afternoon, sending them both to the hospital, the Smithtown Fire Department said.
Fire department officials said the call reporting the accident came in at roughly 5:35 p.m.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Main Street when it hit the girls, ages 9 years old and 13 years old.
Both victims were taken to the Stony Brook University Medical Center. Fire department officials said the 9-year-old was airlifted by the Suffolk County Police Department to the hospital while the 13-year-old was transported via ambulance.

Authorities haven't released any details about the injuries.
Thursday's accident is at the same scene of two other fatal accidents that occurred within 15 months of each other on Main Street. In November 2009, , who was high on heroin at the time of the accident and later sentenced to up to 12 years in jail. And in February, was struck and killed when he was hit by a car after leaving Napper Tandy's. He had been celebrating his 33rd birthday at the bar.
