5 Businesses That Closed in the Southampton Area

Southampton Stationery, Foody's, Banana Republic and more shuttered this year.

As we look back at 2013, let's reflect on the businesses that closed up, many after decades serving the community.

Barrister's

Barrister's restaurant, which was located on Main Street in Southampton Village since the late 1970s, closed its doors in September.

Foody's

Executive chef and owner Bryan Futerman closed his Water Mill restaurant, Foody's, in November after eight and a half years and several big changes in the Water Mill Shoppes complex in recent years.

Banana Republic

After two decades in the Bridgehampton Commons, Banana Republic closed in September.

Water Mill Suffolk County National Bank Branch

After more than 30 years, the Water Mill branch of the Suffolk County National Bank shuttered in early October. The small branch, complete with a drive-thru, was located on the corner of Montauk Highway and Nowedonah Avenue, just east of the hamlet center. It was the only bank in Water Mill.

Southampton Stationery

Herbert Jannsen, the owner of a Southampton Village staple, retired and closed Southampton Stationery after 43 years at the end of August.
