Man Charged With DWI After 5 Injured In 3-Car Crash On County Route 104: Police
1 person was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital; a Riverhead man was arrested and charged with DWI, police say.
FLANDERS, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-vehicle crash left five people injured in Flanders Saturday night, police said.
Erik A. Yatvelasquez, 22, was arrested and charged with DWI, Southampton Town police said.
According to police, at about 7:44 p.m., a 911 call came in about a crash on County Route 104, about a half mile south of County Route 105.

Southampton Town police officers, the police department's community response unit, and New York State troopers responded and found a crash involving the three vehicles, with multiple injuries, police said.
The Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance and East Quogue Fire Rescue responded, along with the Flanders Fire Department, to assist the injured and safeguard the crash scene, police said.

Additionally, the Suffolk County Police Department's medevac helicopter responded to transport one of the injured to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
In total, four people were ground transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, and one person was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Detectives responded to the scene along with members of the New York State Police Department's collision reconstruction unit and forensic identification unit, police said.
The road remained closed during the investigation; the closure had both lanes of travel closed on CR-104 between the traffic circle at CR-31 and CR 104 and extended north to the intersection of CR-104 and CR-105, police said.
The road was re-opened in both directions shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, police said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
