Bayman Rescued by Marine 9 and USCG

On April 29th, Southampton Town Police received an emergency call at approximately 12:50 P.M. of an unmanned boat drifting across Tiana Bay.

Bay Constables responded with a nearby patrol boat from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Shinnecock.

A Senior Bay Constable in a vehicle onshore on the east side of the bay spotted a man standing on top of a fish trap net approximately 750 feet. from shore.

Bay Constables aboard Marine 9 and members of the Coast Guard rescued the 60-year-old old man, who had become caught in the fish netting. The unnamed man said he had slipped from the boat while working his traps and lost contact with his boat.

The Bay Constables returned him to his boat, which now had drifted across the bay, and then escorted it back to a local boat ramp as a precautionary measure.
