1. A Surprise Discovery Reveals a Bigger Mystery: The 43r5 acre Island in Peconic Bay, known as Robin’s Island has been the scene of a speckled deer poaching operation. Two men were found to have snuck on property of the private island that boasts a game preserve. Billionaire Louis Bacon owns the island and upon discovery of the trespassers, uncovered provisions, latrines and surveillance equipment. The area is known for being the habitat of white tailed deer, who are in high demand within the hunting black market. (27EAST)
2. The Winter Freeze: South Hampton residents are getting some financial relief in the form of tax freezes. For South Hampton homeowners, taxes will not increase through 2022 when the value of a home increases. The town board voted to hold tax hikes for these properties because of the rapid rises in home values brought on during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Suffolk County families have suffered because of the fiscal disruptions. This measure, not to further exhaust property owners’ ability to meet basic demands, should remove much of the pressure as the region crawls toward normal economic activities. (27EAST)
3. South Hampton Real Estate: In South Hampton, housing prices are holding steady. The median list price was reported to be $2.3 million and the median sales price hovered at $1.3 million. Those figures reflect marketing listings and sales this fall. Currently, supply is outpacing demand and the average home remains on the market for an average of 188 days. While pricing is still strong, the factors of high supply and an increase of average days on market indicates that the homebuying frenzy may be slowing. (News12)
