Driver Who Almost Collides With Police Car Charged With DWI: PD

The almost hit the Southampton Town police car Friday night, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Mastic man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after almost colliding with a Southampton Town police vehicle Friday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 11:39 p.m. A Southampton Town police officer was conducting a traffic stop; during the stop, an uninvolved vehicle swerved off the roadway and almost collided with the police vehicle, police said.

During an investigation, the driver, Gintaras Satas, 58, was found to be driving while intoxicated, police said. Satas was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor DWI and multiple traffic violations, police said.

He was held overnight to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
