Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Flanders Woods: Police

The Westhampton Beach man was arrested Sunday, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A Westhampton Beach man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a Flanders crash Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at around 8:24 p.m., officers were conducting routine patrols in the area of County Road 31 and County Road 104 in Flanders when they saw that a vehicle had crashed into the wooded area near the northbound lane of County Road 104.

An investigation determined that Walter Golding, 56, had been driving while intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into the woods, police said.

Golding was arrested and transported to the Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; he was held to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.

Golding was charged with misdemeanor DWI; driving without an interlock device, a misdemeanor; second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; and several traffic law violations, police said.
