Man Found With Loaded Firearm After Assault: Police

He was found lying on the ground in thick shrubbery with a loaded firearm nearby, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man was arrested after an altercation that reportedly took place on the Shinnecock Reservation early Monday, police said.

According to New York State police, at about 1 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the reservation after reports of an altercation. Upon arrival, troopers found someone with minor injuries to his face, who had been struck by a man, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Arnay Terry, 49, of Southampton, fled the residence on foot and was later found lying on the ground near the home in thick shrubbery with a firearm near him; troopers took Terry into custody, police said.

Terry was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, a felony; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, loaded firearm, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony; second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said.
