Man Who Crashed Into Sign, Flees Scene, Charged With DWI: Police

He was arrested early Monday, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Shirley man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a sign and fled the scene in Southampton early Monday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 1:41 a.m. on Montauk Highway and Studio Lane. Mateo Pinomarin, 23, left the roadway and struck the sign before fleeing, police said.

After a canvass of the area, Pinomarin was located in his vehicle and found to be intoxicated; he was arrested and taken to police headquarters, police said.

He was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and held for morning arraignment, police said.
