Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Riverside Identified: PD

The crash took place Sunday night, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A pedestrian who died after being struck in Flanders Sunday night has been identified as Ever Eli Damian Mazat, 46, of Flanders, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, Silvia Alvarez De Reyes, 46, of Shirley, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality, a felony.

She was held overnight for arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

On Sunday at 7:23 p.m., while on patrol in the area of Flanders Road and Vail Avenue, a Southampton Town police officer came upon a man lying on the ground, unconscious, in the westbound lane, police said.

After a brief investigation, it was determined that the man had been struck by a vehicle that had subsequently fled the scene, police said.

Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to render care, police said. Southampton Town police detectives, as well as the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, responded to the scene to investigate.

Flanders Road was shut down from the Riverside traffic circle to Vail Avenue during the investigation and has since reopened.
